Job Description BAE Systems Integrated Defense Solutions (IDS)
business area is seeking a highly skilled and visionary Systems
Engineer to lead the systems engineering organization to maintain a
competitive advantage in the marketplace and drive performance
excellence for our programs. This leadership role requires a deep
understanding of systems engineering principles, exceptional
strategic thinking, and the ability to manage complex projects. The
candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire systems
engineering lifecycle and developing strategies to deliver
innovative solutions for critical defense programs. The Lead
Systems Engineer must be capable of executing an integrated systems
engineering concept of operations (CONOPS) in direct support of our
business objectives including the execution of internal research
and development projects.IDS is a business area within the
Intelligence & Security (I&S) sector of BAE Systems Inc. The
IDS Lead Systems Engineer will report directly to the IDS Senior
Director for Strategy and Engineering Technology and will be a
member of the IDS engineering leadership team. The role can be
based at one of our BAE regional offices and may require travel to
the I&S headquarter offices in McLean, VA as well as other
sites and customer locations.Specific responsibilities of this
position will include but not be limited to:
- Serve as the Manager for the hybrid-matrixed systems
engineering staff across the IDS business portfolio--provide
coaching and technical guidance to direct reports to ensure
programs successfully meet contract commitments
- Define and implement digital engineering strategies that
deliver value to both internal projects and critical defense
programs
- Research emerging trends, techniques, methods, and current best
practices in the evolution of digital engineering and be willing to
be on the forefront and cutting edge of the field
- Support the IDS Senior Director for Strategy and Engineering
Technology in the development and execution of technical roadmaps
to drive the organization's strategic growth objectives and
integration of new technologies
- Serve as a subject matter expert for business captures and
provide technical leadership to overall solution development and
construction of proposal artifacts
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in the systems
engineering disciplines and ensure cost- ffectiveness when
developing designs
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on complex
engineering projects
- Ensure compliance and support the execution of the engineering
mandates in the Lifecycle Management (LCM) framework including
engineering policy, product safety policy, independent design
reviews (IDR), and technical bid reviews (TBR)
- Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives within the
systems engineering functionRequired Education, Experience, &
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Systems/Industrial Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Minimum of 12 years experience in systems engineering with at
least five years in a leadership role. Proven experience managing
complex defense programs and leading cross-functional teams.
- In depth knowledge of systems engineering principles,
methodologies, and tools. Proficiency in systems engineering
standards and frameworks (e.g., INCOSE, ISO/IEC 15288).
- Strong leadership and team management abilities with experience
in mentoring and developing engineering talent.
- Experience in managing large-scale projects including budget
and schedule oversight. Proficiency in project management
methodologies and tools.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the
ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and
non-technical audiences.
- Experience in proposal processes and development.
- Proven experience leading geographically diverse teams; strong
coaching and mentoring skills; and ability to achieve results
through others.Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Post-graduate degree
- Certification in Systems Engineering (e.g., CSEP, ESEP)
- Experience with advanced simulation and modeling tools
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and practices
- Experience with hardware and software integration
- Knowledge and experience working in DoD technical services
industryPay InformationFull-Time Salary Range: $147300 -
$250400Please note: This range is based on our market pay
structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a
variety of factors including, but not limited to: business
considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as
well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and
