THINK OUTSIDE.Position Overview:The Welding Manufacturing Engineer
will collaborate with internal and external engineering teams to
bring high quality, innovative product to the hands of people who
enjoy it. This individual will work cross functionally with teams
across the manufacturing business including Design Engineering,
Quality Engineering, Outside tooling venders, etc. The Weld
Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for establishing and
implementing the most cost-efficient methods for our production.
This individual will plan and coordinate the activities necessary
to produce specified products within safety, quality and cost
standards and ensure schedule compliance.Duties and
Responsibilities:
- Directs/guides tooling techs, process techs and robot
programmers in operations.
- Work with a team of engineers and supervisors to achieve
department goals.
- Identifies areas of unnecessary cost and drive cost savings for
the department.
- Develop and implement new manual and automated welding
processes with ability to recommend and specify equipment
details.
- Develops and updates process documentation and procedure
instructions.
- Conducts direct labor studies using acceptable engineering
practices and establishes labor standards on operations, set up,
and workstation layout.
- Defines tooling and fixturing used in the manufacturing
process, while also assisting with ideas for specialized
processes.
- Coordinates with tool vendor to specify or procure new tooling
and fixtures to make necessary changes.
- Travel to vendor sites.
- Analyzes and evaluates manufacturing methods and
standards.
- Provides solutions to problems that adversely affect cost,
operator safety, productivity and quality.
- Research methods and procedures for cost reductions, work cell
development and material flow improvement.
- Work closely with other engineering groups such a Design,
Assembly, Tube fab and Paint.
- Work with department M.E.s as well as New Product Engineers on
model year changes and new product.
- Recognize current production problems and provide feedback to
the team and direct feedback to design engineers.
- Assists in development and troubleshooting of manufacturing
welding equipment.
- Assists in preparation of departmental budget including
material, manpower, equipment and outside procurement costs, and
operates within approved parameters.
- Reviews preliminary designs, making recommendations to reduce
costs and improve manufacturability and quality on new or existing
parts.
- Develops detailed and accurate capital equipment studies, makes
appropriate recommendation within an approved budget.
- Reviews and evaluates manufacturing costs pertaining to make
vs. buy decisions.
- Drive lean culture.
- Performs other assignments as requested.Skills and Knowledge:
- B.S. degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or Weld
Technology.
- 3 - 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience with at
least 3-5 years of Weld Engineering experience is required, or at a
minimum a Welding Engineering Technology Degree with at least 1
year of direct Weld Manufacturing Engineering experience is
required
- High pace automotive manufacturing experience preferred.
- 1-2 years industrial maintenance experience is desired.
- Direct experience with weld tool maintenance and design is
required.
- Ability to work in a strong team dynamic with previous
leadership experience is strongly preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with focus in Excel.
- Robotic Weld Programming experience is preferred.
- Lean Manufacturing knowledge is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret weld and mechanical prints is
required.
- Works independently with moderate supervisory direction
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and mechanic skills
- Strong Project management skillsWorking Conditions:
- Fast-paced manufacturing environment with high technology
driven processes.
- Office and manufacturing environment with most of the time
spent on the floor (80/20 manufacturing vs. office environment).
